NTBI, LPI, eLPI:

  • NTBI, LPI, eLPI: Once transferrin is saturated (>80%), NTBI are detected. NTBI enters cells in an unregulated manner. A redox-active subset of NTBI is LPI. Though measureable through simple flow cytometry based techniques, these measures are not yet available for routine clinical use. Tsat may be a practical way to estimate the presence or absence of NTBI1-5. info
  • Other measures of oxidative stress include enhanced LPI (eLPI), reactive oxygen species (ROS) and long lasting cellular results of oxidative damage such as DNA oxidation products (8-OH-dG) & lipid peroxidation products (e.g. malonaldehyde).
